Ophelia is the 5th poem out 15 of the 1st book of Douai. Ophelia takes up the Shakespearean theme oh the heroine of Hamlet, Ophelia, abandoned woman in love with a prince becomes mad an drowns in despair. The English name of Ophélie “Ophelia” resumed by Arthur Rimbaud confirms the identity of the theme. “On the calm black wave where the stars sleep, White Ophelia floats like a large lys, Floats very slowly, lying in its log sails…”
